ISTANBUL (AA) - Hezbollah announced on Friday that its fighters carried out a drone attack on an Israeli army command base in northern Israel.
The group said in a statement that a squadron of drones targeted the Israeli army's coastal battalion headquarters of the newly established western brigade in Liman.
The attack, in response to Israel's aggression and assassinations in the towns of Hanouiyeh and Naqoura, caused confirmed casualties among Israeli officers and soldiers, the statement added.
Fears have grown about a full-blown war between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah amid a months-long exchange of cross-border fire, especially with Hezbollah threatening military retaliation after the assassination of its top commander Fouad Shukr in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut on July 30.
The escalation comes against the backdrop of an Israeli onslaught against the Gaza Strip which has killed nearly 40,000 people since last October following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
