BEIRUT (AA) — Lebanese group Hezbollah said Thursday that it targeted Israeli soldiers with artillery shells near the border.

In a statement, Hezbollah announced that it targeted a deployment of Israeli troops with artillery shells around the Har Addir military site, opposite the Lebanese town of Rmeish.

The Israeli army has not commented on the attack as of 1630 GMT.

Meanwhile, Lebanon's official news agency reported that Israeli warplanes struck the town of Houla in the southern part of the country.

It added that Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of the towns of Alma al-Shaab and Naqoura.

The agency did not report casualties or damage from the airstrike and shelling.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The cross-border escalation comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 36,240 people since an attack on Oct. 7 by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas.
