BEIRUT (AA) - Hezbollah announced on Friday that it had targeted several Israeli military gatherings near the Lebanon-Israel border.

The Lebanese resistance group said in a statement that it targeted a group of Israeli soldiers near the Israeli Ramya site "with appropriate weapons" and inflicted "direct hits."

The offensive was carried out "in support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and in support of their valiant and honorable resistance," the group said in the statement.

In a separate statement, Hezbollah said it hit a gathering of Israeli "soldiers in the vicinity of the Jal al-Alam site with appropriate weapons."

In another statement, it said to have attacked the Ramim Israeli military outpost.

The Lebanese official National News Agency reported Israeli shelling on various Lebanese southern areas.

Before the exchange of fire, the Lebanese-Israeli border areas had been in a state of cautious calm as the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip resumed after a seven-day humanitarian pause.

Tensions have flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tensions came amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip in response to a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.
