Hong Kong reporter missing in China: Report

Award-winning Minnie Chan of South China Morning Post 'unreachable' after trip to Beijing in October, reports Japan's Kyodo News

ISTANBUL (AA) - A Hong Kong-based journalist working for the daily South China Morning Post has reportedly gone missing during a trip to China.

According to Japan's Kyodo News, award-winning reporter Minnie Chan "became unreachable" after she in the Chinese capital Beijing to cover the Xiangshan Forum.

The three-day international security forum ended on Oct. 31.

People, mainly her friends, said the report "expressed their worries that Chan may be under investigation by mainland authorities."

Her employer said she was "currently on personal leave" without disclosing further details.

Chan has worked for the Hong Kong-based newspaper since 2005, mostly covering defense and diplomacy in China.
