GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) - A hospital in the northern Gaza Strip is operating with limited health capabilities and with one surgeon in light of an Israeli deadly incursion for nearly one month.
"The Al-Awda Hospital is the only hospital in northern Gaza that has a doctor specialized in the general surgery at time many injured people who require urgent medical interventions," the hospital’s director, Mohammed Salha, told Anadolu.
Amid low and limited medical capabilities, Salha noted that "over 70% of the injured cases in the hospital requires urgent surgery interventions."
He said the injured are brought to the hospital on the shoulders of citizens and animal carts, as the Israeli army already destroyed most of the ambulances and nearly all of the civil defense equipment in northern Gaza.
The Palestinian doctor urged opening "safe corridors to transfer the injured cases that can't be treated in the hospitals in northern Gaza to others in Gaza City.”
More than 1,200 people have been killed in northern Gaza since the offensive began Oct. 5, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense Service.
Israel has continued a devastating offensive on Gaza since October 2023, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.
More than 43,200 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 101,800 injured, according to local health authorities.
Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its deadly war on Gaza.
