ATHENS (AA) – Greece can expect a very tough summer ahead due to extreme heat, a government spokesman warned on Thursday.
"All the scientific evidence confirms that this summer will be exceptionally difficult,” Pavlos Marikanis told a news conference.
All relevant state authorities are on high alert, he said, urging the public to avoid exposing themselves to the hot weather, as it could seriously harm their health.
Firefighting teams, along with civil protection forces, are fighting battles daily and have managed to deal with dozens of dangerous fires before they had a change to cause harm to people or property, he added.
Marikanis also announced that that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will visit Burgenstock, Switzerland on Saturday to take part in a Ukraine peace conference.
