ANKARA (AA) – After a close brush with Bermuda, Hurricane Lee is expected to bring strong, possibly damaging wind gusts to coastal regions of New England in the US Northeast.

“On the forecast track, the center of Lee will pass west of Bermuda today and tonight and then approach the coast of New England and Atlantic Canada Friday and Saturday,” the US National Hurricane Center said in a statement.

While a hurricane warning was issued throughout New England, which includes northeastern regions of the US, the hurricane and storm early warning system was activated in the states.

“Additional weakening is forecast, but Lee is expected to remain a large and dangerous hurricane for the next couple of days,” it added.

The tropical storm warning is in effect for the Bermuda region.

On Sunday, adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain and coastal flooding are expected in eastern Maine, which is located in the far northeastern corner of the US.

Hurricane Lee began to spin away from the northern Caribbean as a Category 2 storm aimed for Atlantic Canada and left large waves in its wake.
