BERLIN (AA) — Embracing digitalization and new technologies will determine Germany's future as a leading industry nation, the country's Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Thursday.
Addressing the opening gala of the IFA technology trade show in Berlin, Scholz called for more enthusiasm for technology, highlighting that this would be essential for Germany to remain a leading industrial country.
"Each of us understands at least the basics of how a car works, how to operate a smartphone, or a computer, we must also have the ambition to use artificial intelligence," Scholz said.
"We should know what semiconductors are, and why they are so important for our industry," he added.
Scholz underlined that his government will continue providing support for investments in the fields of digitalization and new technologies, to ensure that Germany will not lag behind in these key sectors in the global arena.
