ANKARA (AA) - Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff advanced Saturday to round 4 in the women's 2023 Roland Garros (French Open).
Polish two-time champion Swiatek dominated her match against Xinyu Wang from Chian in straight sets -- 6-0, 6-0.
Gauff from the US, eliminated Mirra Andreeva, 16, -- 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-1.
“I remember I was here playing at 16 years old so she has a lot to look forward to,” Gauff said about her Russian opponent. “Hopefully you'll see many of the matches between the two of us here."
It took three sets from Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia to get a round 3 win against Ekaterina Alexandrova -- 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
"I wasn't serving my best, I wasn't returning my best, I wasn't playing the shots that I would like and I know that I have a quality, which is try and keep fighting," said Haddad Maia. "I think today was the key to make it to the next round."
The world no. 1 Swiatek will next face Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, while Gauff will take on Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the next round. Haddad Maia will play Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo.
