India asked Apple on Tuesday to join a probe into alleged "state-sponsored attacks" on iPhones.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s electronics and IT minister, said the government asked Apple to "join the investigation with real, accurate information on the alleged state sponsored attacks," in response to to reports of alleged threats.
Vaishnaw wrote on X that the government "will investigate to get to the bottom of these notifications.”
A number of users, including MPs, said they received an alert from Apple.
“I received a concerning notification from Apple, warning me about a potential state-sponsored spyware attack on my phone," opposition parliamentarian Raghav Chadha wrote on X.
The notice received Tuesday said: “If your device is compromised by the state-sponsored attackers, they may be able to remotely access your sensitive data, communications, or even the camera and microphone,” according to Chadha.
But Vaishnaw said much of the information by Apple “seems vague and non-specific in nature.”
