NEW DELHI (AA) - India on Thursday successfully fired the extended range version of BrahMos missile against a ship target from a SU-30MKI aircraft, the country’s Defense Ministry said.
“The missile achieved the desired mission objectives in the Bay of Bengal region,” said the statement.
“With this, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has achieved a significant capability boost to carry out precision strikes from SU-30MKI aircraft against land/sea targets over very long ranges," it added.
The ministry also noted that the new capability of the missile gives the country's air force "a strategic reach and allows it to dominate the future battlefields.”
Though the statement did not mention the range of the new missile, some local media reported the range might be between 350 and 400 kilometers.
