NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH, India (AA) - India’s coronavirus fatality rate has dropped below 2.5% for the first time, the country’s Health Ministry said.
“Effective Containment Strategy, aggressive testing and standardized clinical management protocols based on holistic Standard of Care approach, the Case Fatality Rate has significantly dipped. The Case Fatality Rate is progressively falling and currently, it is 2.49%. India has one of the lowest fatality rates in the world,” the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
Case-fatality rate is the proportion of persons with a particular condition (number of cases) who die from that condition.
Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country crossed 1.11 million mark, with highest single day spike of 40,425 news cases, and 681 deaths over the last 24 hours, according the Health Ministry.
The death toll from the virus in the country rose to 27,497.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, more than 14 million tests have been conducted so far in the country, with 256,039 on Sunday.
Parents in India feel that schools should not be allowed to reopen at this time when the number of coronavirus cases have witnessed sharp rise in different parts of the country.
