ISTANBUL (AA) – Indonesia has launched a criminal investigation into the alleged illegal production of 109 tons of minted gold bars at the state-owned gold miner Aneka Tambang (Antam) over 12 years.

Six former Antam general managers in charge of precious metal purification and management between 2010 and 2022 have been named as suspects, the Jakarta Globe reported on Friday.

On Thursday, prosecutors interrogated a former Antam commissioner, identified by the initials RAS, who served from April 2014 to March 2019, the daily said, citing Attorney General’s Office spokesman Harli Siregar.

Investigators claim that the suspects collaborated illegally for at least 12 years, from 2010 to 2022, to produce 109 tons of minted gold bars bearing the Antam logo.

According to the spokesman, prosecutors have confiscated 7.7 kilograms of fine gold bars from the suspects and interrogated approximately 100 witnesses.
