ISTANBUL (AA) – Indonesia asked China for technical assistance and solar power investments to improve air quality, Chief Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said Friday.

Luhut proposed partnering with China to reduce pollution from coal power generation in his recent meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a visit to Beijing, local media reported.

“We are asking for technical assistance to help reduce pollution from coal-fired power plants,” Luhut stated.

Emphasizing Indonesia's and neighboring Singapore's solar power potential, Luhut encouraged Chinese solar power producers to establish manufacturing plants in Indonesia.

He also urged Chinese green energy investors to bring their suppliers to Indonesia and expressed hopes that Chinese battery firms would utilize Indonesia’s nickel resources.

Indonesian capital Jakarta ranked 12th among the most polluted cities in the world in 2021, according to a report by IQAir, a firm that tracks global air quality.
