JAKARTA, Indonesia (AA) - Indonesia on Monday reported its highest daily increase in COVID-19 infections with 40,427 cases, raising the country's tally to 2,567,630.
The Health Ministry reported 891 more coronavirus-related fatalities, pushing the national death toll to 67,355.
Meanwhile, the number of recoveries rose by 2.1 million, after 34,754 more patients won the battle against COVID-19.
As many as 380,797 people are still undergoing treatment or self-isolating.
The capital Jakarta also saw its biggest daily rise with 14,619 new cases in the last 24 hours.
The Delta variant is contributing to a rapid rise in case numbers in the country, where a crisis over oxygen supplies is unfolding.
Lapor COVID-19, a citizen platform, on Monday revealed that at least 451 patients died while undergoing self-isolation, mostly due to difficulty in finding health facilities as their condition worsened.
The Southeast Asian country has administered 51.4 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine so far.
As of Monday, 36.3 million people had received their first doses, while 15 million were fully vaccinated.
Indonesia is planning to give 1.47 million healthcare workers third doses of the Moderna vaccine next week.
