ANKARA (AA) – Indonesia defeated China on Monday to win the first gold medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in women’s badminton.
Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu beat China's Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan 2-0 at Musashino Forest Plaza.
It is the first time Indonesia clinched a gold medal in women's doubles category in its history.
China settled for the silver medal after Indonesia's win.
Ranked 35th in the Olympic medal count, Indonesia won four medals, including one gold, in Tokyo 2020.
The Games will run through Aug. 8.
