Indonesian president visits Papua New Guinea to discuss trade, border issues

Joko Widodo lands in island country after his 3-day trip to Australia

ISTANBUL (AA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo Wednesday visited Papua New Guinea (PNG) to discuss trade, and border issues.

Widodo landed at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby after his three-day trip to Australia.

He held meetings with Governor General Bob Dadae and Prime Minister James Marape of the island country, according to brief statements released on his official Twitter handle.

The two sides were expected to discuss trade, investment, education and border issues.

Widodo last visited Papua New Guinea in 2018.

Indonesia and PNG share around 760 kilometers (472 miles) of border which has witnessed ethnic tensions for a long time.
