Islamic Resistance in Iraq says it used drone to attack Harir Military Airbase in Erbil

BAGHDAD (AA) – An Iranian-backed Shiite militia group in Iraq attacked a US base on Friday, saying the action taken in response to intensified attacks and ground operations in Gaza by Israeli army, which has Washington's military and financial support.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq said in a statement that it used a drone to attack the Harir Military Airbase in Erbil.

Later, images on social media showed smoke rising from the purported base.

Meanwhile, the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) counter-terrorism unit reported an attack on the Harir base using explosive-laden drone.

On Monday, the same group fired three rockets at the Ain al-Asad air base in Al Anbar governate of western Iraq, which also houses US troops.

Later that night, US forces shot down an armed drone flying over the US embassy in Baghdad.

Iranian-backed Shiite militias are reported to be responsible for most of the attacks against US facilities and installations.
