TEHRAN (AA) - Dozens of Iranian retirees staged a protest Wednesday in Tehran against what they describe as “inadequate” pensions.
Protesters, mostly retired teachers and nurses, gathered outside the capital’s parliament building.
According to the Iranian Labor News Agency, demonstrators chanted slogans against rampant inflation, with some raising banners that read: “Apply the law; don't discriminate against us.”
Protesting retirees complain that Iran’s 2019 state budget does not take their rights into account and demand that it be readjusted.
In January of last year, retired Iranian military officers staged a similar protest outside parliament to demand higher pensions.
Iran’s fiscal year begins on March 21.
