BAGHDAD (AA) - The Iraqi Health Ministry said on Tuesday that at least 16 people were killed and 75 others wounded in a stampede during a religious ceremony in the southern province of Karbala.
"Sixteen people were killed and 75 others injured in the incident," Health Ministry spokesman Saif al-Bader said in a statement.
Al-Bader pointed out that they fear the death toll may rise.
A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Anadolu Agency that at least 31 people were killed and dozens injured in a walkway collapse during the Ashura ceremony in Karbala.
