ERBIL, Iraq (AA) – Masrour Barzani was sworn in Wednesday as the new prime minister of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq.
In a session held by the regional Kurdish parliament, 88 MPs voted to give confidence to Barzani's government, out of 111 attending lawmakers.
Qubad Talabani was also confirmed by the regional parliament as the KRG deputy premier.
Barzani is the son of Massoud Barzani, the leader of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and former head of the northern Iraqi region.
He was named by parliament last month to replace Nechirvan Barzani, who was sworn in as president of northern Iraq’s Kurdish region.
