NINEVEH, Iraq (AA) – Iraqi police forces arrested a Daesh militant in the northern city of Mosul on Wednesday, according to a local security official.
The militant, identified as Taha Mohamed Salam, was rounded up in eastern Mosul upon an intelligence tip-off, Nineveh police chief Brigadier General Hamed al-Jabouri told Anadolu Agency.
Mosul is the provincial capital of Nineveh province in northern Iraq.
Thousands of people have been arrested by Iraqi forces for suspected Daesh links since the terrorist group was cleared from its largest stronghold in Mosul last year.
Last December, officials in Baghdad declared that the Daesh's military presence in Iraq had been all but dismantled after a three-year war. However, from time to time, Iraqi officials announce operations against Daesh-affiliated "sleeper cells" in certain parts of the country.
