ANKARA (AA) – Iraqi Defense Minister Thabit Abbasi paid a working visit to his Turkish counterpart Yasar Guler on Saturday, Türkiye’s National Defense Ministry announced.
Abbasi and Guler met in the capital Ankara, the ministry said in a statement.
No further details were shared on the meeting.
Guler also spoke to his British counterpart John Healey over the phone on Saturday.
The two officials discussed the latest developments in Syria, as well as the bilateral and regional defense and security issues, the ministry noted.
Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in power in Syria since 1963.
