KIRKUK, Iraq - Iraqi forces killed six Daesh terrorists Thursday in the southwestern Kirkuk province, according to a high-ranking military source.
Saad Harbiya, head of the Iraqi army’s Kirkuk Operations Command, told Anadolu Agency that security forces had recently launched fresh operations against the group’s lingering presence south of Kirkuk city.
Six terrorists were killed during “intense operations” in Kirkuk’s Daquq district, Harbiya said.
According to the army commander, “large quantities” of ammunition were seized from terrorist hideouts during the two-day operation.
In mid-2014, Daesh overran roughly one third of Iraq, including the northern city of Mosul.
By late 2017, the Iraq army -- with the help of U.S.-led military coalition -- had recovered most if not all lost territories from the terrorist group.
