Israeli fighter jets launch raid on Markaba town in southern Lebanon, according to army statement

By Anadolu staff

The Israeli army on Friday reported targeting a Hezbollah military site in a southern Lebanese town.

In a statement, the army said its forces detected Hezbollah fighters “entering a military structure of the organization in the Markaba area.”

“Air Force fighter jets attacked the structure,” it added, without providing any further details.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that “Israeli enemy aircraft on Friday launched an attack on the outskirts of southern Lebanon’s Markaba, specifically the Marhat area, with two missiles.”

It added that “ambulances were duly dispatched to the scene.”

Earlier on Friday, the Lebanese Hezbollah group announced that it targeted two Israeli military sites off the southern Lebanese border.

Fears have grown about a full-fledged war between Israel and Hezbollah amid an exchange of almost daily attacks.

The escalation comes against the backdrop of a deadly Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 39,200 people since Oct. 7 last year following an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
