The Israeli men's national football team went out of the Paris 2024 Olympics at the group stage after a 1-0 loss to Japan on Tuesday.

Mao Hosoya scored the injury-time winner for already-qualified Japan at Nantes' La Beaujoire Stadium as the team won all their matches in Group D to face Spain in the knockouts on Friday in Lyon.

Israel failed in the group stage after having a point in three matches.

Third-place Mali, which similarly took one point in the group, returned home as well.

Paraguay beat Mali 1-0 at Paris's Parc des Princes stadium to join Japan in the Olympics' last eight.

They have six points to finish Group D as runners-up.

In their next fixture, Paraguay will meet Egypt on Friday in Marseille.

Earlier Tuesday, Egypt stunned Spain 2-1 to reach the Paris 2024 football quarterfinals.

All the last eight matches will be held on Friday.
