ISTANBUL (AA) – A Palestinian health official on Monday accused Israel of executing patients at hospitals amid a deadly military offensive in the Gaza Strip.
“The (Israeli) occupation has exhausted hospitals in Gaza’s north and south,” Mohammed Zaqout, director-general of hospitals in the Palestinian territory, said in a statement.
“The occupation is carrying out a direct operation to execute patients and injured people at hospitals,” he added.
Last week, the Israeli army raided Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest medical complex in Gaza City, as part of its ongoing onslaught in the enclave.
“There are 260 injured people at Al-Shifa and one of them dies at the facility every day,” Zaqout said.
On Monday, at least 12 people were killed in Israeli shelling of the Indonesian Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, according to the Health Ministry in the enclave.
“The Israeli occupation is attempting to put the Indonesian Hospital out of service,” ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.
The Health Ministry earlier warned that the lives of thousands of patients, medical personnel and displaced people “are at the risk of death as a result of the direct and repeated bombardment of the Indonesian Hospital.”
Since Israel started bombarding Gaza on Oct. 7, at least 13,000 Palestinians have been killed, including over 9,000 women and children, and more than 30,000 others have been injured, according to the latest figures.
Thousands of buildings, including hospitals, mosques, and churches, have also been damaged or destroyed in Israel’s relentless air and ground attacks on the besieged enclave.
An Israeli blockade has also cut Gaza off from fuel, electricity, and water supplies, and reduced aid deliveries to a small trickle.
The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is around 1,200, according to official figures.
