JERUSALEM (AA) - The Israeli army said Saturday it intercepted a surface-to-air missile fired from Lebanon that was headed for a military drone.
A statement said the missile was shot down by air defenses before crossing into Israeli airspace.
It said it attacked positions belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in response to the missile attack.
Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchange of fire between Israeli forces and the Lebanese group in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.
The border tension comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, on Oct. 7.
A four-day humanitarian pause took effect Friday between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip. The pause includes an exchange of prisoners and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave.
