GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – Israel on Saturday released 18 Palestinians from various prisons, who were immediately transferred to a government hospital in southern Gaza for medical examinations to determine their physical conditions, as previous releases had evidence of torture and brutality on their bodies.

A medical source at the European Gaza Hospital told Anadolu that the released Palestinians have been transferred to the hospital.

In recent months, the Israeli army has released dozens of detainees in sporadic batches, many of whom were in poor health.

According to testimonies from previously released detainees, those held in Israeli prisons were subjected to "beatings, torture, humiliation, and interrogation" throughout their incarceration.

Since the ground offensive began on Oct. 27, the Israeli military has detained thousands of Palestinians, including women, children, health care workers, and civil defense personnel. While a small number have been released, the whereabouts of many others are unknown.

Israel has launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 44,600 people, mostly women and children, since Oct. 7, 2023.

Last month, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on Gaza.
