ISTANBUL, Türkiye (AA) - The Israeli military early Thursday carried out airstrikes, artillery shelling, and naval attacks on various areas of the Gaza Strip, with a particular focus on the northwestern part of the enclave.

According to the state news agency Wafa, Israeli fighter jets launched a "series of heavy airstrikes" on Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, Jabalia, and Al-Karama in the northwestern area of the Gaza Strip.

Israeli fighter jets and artillery reportedly also extensively targeted the southeastern area of Gaza City.

The airstrikes by Israel were said to continue in the vicinity of the Al-Shati refugee camp, Al-Nasr neighborhood, and Sheikh Radwan in Gaza City.

Israeli artillery fired dozens of shells in the vicinity of the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, which had been evacuated of medical staff and patients due to the heavy airstrikes in its proximity and direct targeting, as well as running out of fuel and medical supplies due to the Israeli blockade.

This week Israeli army has expanded its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.

More than 10,300 people have since been killed in the conflict, including at least 8,796 Palestinians and more than 1,538 Israelis.

Besides the large number of casualties and displacement, basic supplies are running low for the 2.3 million residents in Gaza due to the Israeli siege.
