RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – The Israeli army detained 31 Palestinians in overnight raids across the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem, a local nongovernmental organization said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Palestinian Prisoners Society said the new arrests raised the overall total of Palestinians detained by the Israeli forces since Oct. 7 to nearly 2,570.
Before Oct. 7, when the Israel-Palestine conflict flared up, the number of Palestinians detained in Israeli jails was around 5,200 – including more than 1,000 held under the notorious administrative detention policy with no charge or trial.
Tensions have been high across the West Bank since the fighting broke out on Oct. 7 between Palestinian groups and Israel in Gaza.
At least 195 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli forces in the West Bank since Oct. 7 in addition to over 2,500 others injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
