JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli military said Monday evening that its security system intercepted some of the 33 rockets fired from Lebanon toward northern Israel, one of which landed in Tel Aviv, central Israel.
The Israeli army said 32 rockets were fired from Lebanon toward the Galilee region and the Golan Heights, some of which were intercepted and others impacted the ground.
The rockets’ firing activated sirens in several settlements in the Galilee and Golan Heights areas.
Later, a rocket was fired toward Tel Aviv and landed in an open area, according to a separate statement from the Israeli military.
Though the rocket was fired from Lebanon, Tel Aviv's air raid sirens were not activated.
There were no reports of casualties or property damage from the rockets' firing.
Separately, the Israeli army claimed to have intercepted five drones launched from Lebanon over the Mediterranean Sea before they entered Israeli airspace.
Israel has mounted a huge air campaign in Lebanon since Sept. 23 against what it says are Hezbollah targets, in an escalation from a year of cross-border warfare between Israel and the Lebanese group since the start of Israel’s brutal offensive on Gaza.
Nearly 2,500 people have been killed and more than 11,500 others injured in Israeli attacks since last year, according to Lebanese health authorities.
Israel expanded the conflict on Oct. 1 this year by launching a ground assault into southern Lebanon.
