ISTANBUL (AA) – The Israeli army on Wednesday night raided Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City for the second time in less than 24 hours.
The Palestinian official news agency Wafa said the Israeli military bulldozers and vehicles raided the hospital complex from its southern entrance.
The purpose of its incursion was not yet clear.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Israeli army withdrew from inside the hospital after raiding it in the morning, but kept its siege, preventing any movement inside the complex.
The Israeli army's tanks and military vehicles have been besieging the hospital for the past week.
The Israeli authorities repeatedly said that the hospital is used as a military command center by the Hamas group, an accusation that has not been proven yet, and vehemently denied by the Hamas group.
Established in 1948, Al-Shifa Hospital is the largest hospital in Gaza with a 500-700-bed capacity.
The government media office in Gaza said in a statement that the Israeli army has so far targeted 52 health centers and 55 ambulances, while 25 hospitals have run out of service due to bombardment or lack of fuel and medical supplies.
Since Oct. 7, at least 11,500 Palestinians have been killed, including over 7,800 women and children, and more than 29,200 others have been injured, according to the latest figures from Palestinian authorities.
Thousands of buildings, including hospitals, mosques, and churches, have also been damaged or destroyed in Israel's relentless air and ground attacks on the besieged enclave.
The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is around 1,200, according to official figures.
