RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - The Israeli army on early Wednesday raided the Jenin city and its refugee camp in the occupied northern West Bank, triggering clashes with Palestinians.

Witnesses told Anadolu that the Israeli army stormed Jenin from several directions and was escorted by bulldozers which embarked on destroying more roads and infrastructure facilities.

They added that sounds of fire exchange and explosions were heard in several parts of the city and the refugee camp.

The Israeli army late Tuesday withdrew from Tulkarem city and its two refugee camps – Nur Shams and Tulkarem camps – following an incursion that lasted for several hours.

In the past 24 hours, the Israeli army killed 8 Palestinians in the northern West Bank, including six in the Qabatiya area and two in Tammoun town.

The Israeli military conducts regular raids across the West Bank, which have escalated with the beginning of the war on Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023. Palestinians have also been violently attacked by illegal Israeli settlers.

At least 777 Palestinians have since been killed and over 6,300 others injured by Israeli army fire in the occupied territory, according to the Health Ministry.

The escalation follows a landmark opinion in July by the International Court of Justice that declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land "illegal" and demanded the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
