RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - The Israeli army raided two Palestinian towns in the occupied West Bank on Monday and erected military checkpoints, triggering clashes that left at least two people injured.
Speaking to Anadolu, Mohammad Azim, the head of the municipal council of Sebastia, said a large number of Israeli forces stormed the town and broke into several homes.
He noted that the town contains an archeological site dating back 5,000 years..
In the southern part of the West Bank, the Israeli army raided the town of Idna, west of Hebron city, and also erected military checkpoints.
Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that clashes erupted between the Israeli forces and Palestinians, leaving one Palestinian injured and another suffering asphyxiation from Israeli teargas.
Over the past few years, Israeli forces have conducted regular raids in the West Bank, which escalated after the Israel-Hamas war broke out last October, which has killed more than 40,400 Palestinians.
Palestinians have also been violently attacked by illegal Israeli settlers.
At least 646 Palestinians have since been killed and nearly 5,400 others injured by Israeli army fire in the occupied West Bank, according to the Health Ministry.
In a landmark opinion on July 19, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land unlawful and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
