JERUSALEM (AA) - The Israeli army said Tuesday evening that it intercepted a drone approaching the country's territory from the east.

“A UAV that approached Israeli territory from the east was successfully intercepted by the IAF (air force),” a military statement said.

It added that the drone “was intercepted before crossing into Israeli territory.”

In a related development, the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom reported that Israeli forces intercepted “three suspicious aerial targets” near Lake Tiberias in the northern part of the country without triggering air raid sirens.

Additionally, the Israeli Home Front Command activated sirens in Rosh HaNikra, Shlomi, and Betzet Beach in the western Galilee following rocket fire from Lebanon.

Regional tensions have escalated due to Israel’s brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 42,400 people, mostly women and children, following a Hamas attack last year.

The conflict has spread to Lebanon, with Israel launching deadly strikes across the country, which have killed more than 1,500 people and injured over 4,500 others since Sept. 23.
