JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army said Saturday that it detected the launch of 30 rockets fired from Lebanon into the Galilee region in northern Israel.
A military statement said most of the projectiles were intercepted, while some of the rockets fell in the area, without providing further details.
Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth said the Israeli electricity company was working to repair damage caused by the rockets in several areas in the Finger of Galilee and Western Galilee areas in northern Israel.
It said the rocket fire had damaged the high-voltage network and destroyed wires in the area.
Israel has escalated its air campaign in Lebanon since late September against what it claims are Hezbollah targets in an escalation from year-long cross-border warfare between Israel and Hezbollah since the start of Israel’s brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip.
Nearly 2,900 people have been killed and more than 13,000 injured in Israeli attacks since last October, according to Lebanese health authorities.
Israel expanded the conflict by launching an incursion into southern Lebanon on Oct. 1.
