JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army announced on Wednesday that it targeted an armed group in Lebanon attempting to launch anti-tank missiles towards border areas.

In a statement received by Anadolu, the Israeli army said: “An Israeli tank attacked a cell that was attempting to launch anti-tank missiles from Lebanese territory into Israeli territory in the Zarit area.”

The statement also noted another incident where "gunmen opened fire from Lebanese territory towards Israeli territory in the Yafata area, causing no casualties."

The Israeli army stated that it "returned fire at the sources of the gunfire."

There was no immediate comment from the Lebanese side.

The Lebanese border has witnessed intermittent exchanges of fire between the Israeli army on one side, and Hezbollah and Palestinian factions on the other amid the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza since Oct. 7. This has resulted in casualties on both sides.
