Israeli army says soldier killed in battles in central Gaza

New soldier's death brings army toll since start of ground operation on Oct. 27 to 186

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – The Israeli army early on Wednesday announced one more Israeli soldier was killed and another seriously injured in fighting with Palestinian groups in the central Gaza Strip.

The Israeli public broadcaster KAN identified the slain soldier as Sgt. First Classm Elkana Newlander, 24, a combat medic in the 99th Division, who was killed in fighting yesterday in the central Gaza Strip.

A total of 186 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the start of the Israeli ground operation in Gaza on Oct. 27.

The death toll of the Israeli army since the start of the Israeli onslaught against Gaza on Oct. 7 has risen to 520.

Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7, killing at least 23,210 Palestinians, and injuring 59,167 others, mostly women and children, according to local health authorities.

Around 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.
