GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – A Palestinian health official on Monday warned of the collapse of the health care system at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central Gaza Strip amid Israeli bombardment.
"The hospital lacks a proper health system, and could collapse at any moment amid massive Israeli raids,” Khalil al-Dikran, a spokesman for the hospital, told Anadolu.
He said 40 dead Palestinians and 50 injured people were brought to the hospital on Monday.
“The hospital lacks sufficient medicines and medical supplies amid the rising number of the injured at the facility,” Dikran said.
He added that the number of the injured at the hospital exceeds its capacity fivefold.
“The hospital needs medicines, medical supplies, and fuel urgently to continue its operations in the coming days,” the spokesman said.
Israel resumed its military offensive on the Gaza Strip on Dec. 1 after the end of a weeklong humanitarian pause with the Palestinian group Hamas.
Nearly 18,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 49,229 others injured in relentless air and ground attacks on the enclave since Oct. 7 following a cross-border attack by Hamas, according to Gaza’s health authorities.
The Israeli death toll in the Hamas attack stood at 1,200, according to official figures.
