Army did not confirm reports of interception

JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli media said Tuesday that a projectile had been intercepted over the Red Sea before infiltrating Israeli territory.

The projectile was possibly launched from Yemen, triggering air-raid sirens to sound in the coastal city of Eilat, public broadcaster KAN said.

The Israeli army confirmed that it had identified an “aerial target” approaching the country’s territory, but without confirming reports that the target was intercepted over the Red Sea.

“There was no threat or risk to civilians,” the army said in a statement.

Tension has been rising across the region as the Israeli army continued its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.

More than 9,800 people have been killed in the Gaza conflict, including 8,306 Palestinians and more than 1,538 Israelis.
