Israeli military claims it attacked Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon

Army says it hit targets in towns of Ayta ash-Sha'b, Aadaysit Marjaayoun

JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army on Sunday claimed it attacked Hezbollah's targets in the towns of Ayta ash-Sha'b and Aadaysit Marjaayoun in southern Lebanon.

“Air Force aircraft attacked a military facility of Hezbollah in the area of Ayta ash-Sha'b in southern Lebanon, and another military infrastructure of the organization in the area of al-Aadaysit Marjaayoun, after fighters of Battalion 869 (of the army) identified militants there,” the army said in a statement.

It added: “Today (Sunday) three anti-tank missiles were launched towards the Shetula area and Jabal el Manara in the Galilee (north).”

The Israeli army further stated that it “targeted the sources of missile launch and other targets in southern Lebanon.”

As of 1800GMT, the Lebanese group did not comment on the Israeli army's statement.

A Syrian worker died of injuries he sustained in an Israeli warplane attack on a car in Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon on Sunday, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Sunday’s attacks came as tensions continued to flare along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The escalation comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip that has killed over 32,200 Palestinians following a Hamas attack last Oct. 7.

At least 300 people are estimated to have been killed in Lebanon, including 240 Hezbollah fighters, since the clashes erupted last October. Nearly 20 Israelis have been killed, according to Israeli figures.
