GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) - A Palestinian man was killed and others injured by the Israeli army as displaced people attempted to return to northern Gaza after a humanitarian pause took effect Friday, sources told Anadolu.

Ambulances transported the injured from the buffer zone between the southern and northern parts of the Gaza Strip to the Shuhada Al-Aqsa hospital in the city of Deir al-Balah, medical sources told Anadolu.

Thousands of Palestinians displaced by weeks of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip began returning to their homes to check on property and look for family members as the humanitarian pause commenced early Friday.

The Palestinians who are still in the northern part of the Gaza Strip can check on their homes, while the Israeli army has warned displaced Palestinians in the south of the Strip against moving to the north during the pause

Qatar said Thursday that a humanitarian pause deal between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip will start at 7 a.m. local time Friday.

Israel launched relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group, Hamas, on Oct. 7.

The Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has soared to 14,854, the government’s media office in the blockaded enclave said Thursday.

The victims include 6,150 children and more than 4,000 women, while over 36,000 have been injured, it said.

Around 7,000 people remain unaccounted for, including more than 4,700 children, it added.

The official Israeli death toll stands at 1,200.
