Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responds to demands to protect civilians by bombing hospitals: Palestinian Foreign Ministry

Ministry rejects ‘positions of some countries that are still using the excuse of self-defense’

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the continued Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

The ministry said it “condemns in the strongest terms the continuation of the Israeli war of annihilation against our people in the Gaza Strip for the 29th day in a row.”

It said the Israeli war “clearly targets hospitals, shelter schools, and residential homes.”

“This means more mass massacres, and more disruption of the work of hospitals and ambulance crews in light of the continued Israeli refusal to bring fuel into hospitals, as Netanyahu brags about it,” it said.

It confirmed that “it has become clear that the international community has failed to convince Netanyahu and his war council to bring fuel to hospitals, more relief supplies, food and water supplies.”

“It has also become clear that Netanyahu refuses to accept a temporary ceasefire under a humanitarian truce,” it said. “On the contrary, Netanyahu responded to these international demands by bombing hospitals, ambulance convoys, schools that shelter those displaced from their homes, and areas that are being leveled and destroyed.”

The ministry warned of “the consequences of the international community coexisting with these criminal scenes as they are repeated daily.”

It also warned of “the consequences of treating the victims and wounded of the Palestinian people as mere numbers.”

The ministry expressed “strong rejection of the positions of some countries that are still using the excuse of self-defense in light of the continuing horrific massacres against children and women and in light of the brutal destruction of everything in the Gaza Strip.”

It called for “a firm international humanitarian stance that forces Israel to stop the war, guarantees the protection of civilians, and ensures the provision of all their basic humanitarian needs.”

The Israeli army has widened its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the surprise offensive by the Palestinian group Hamas, on Oct. 7.

“The death toll as a result of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7 is 9,500, including 3,900 children and 2,509 women,” Salama Marouf, the head of the Gaza media office, said at a news conference.

Nearly 1,540 Israelis have been killed.
