JERUSALEM (AA) - An Israeli man was seriously wounded in a shooting attack near the city of Qalqilya in the northern occupied West Bank.
The Israeli army said in a brief statement that Israeli forces killed the Palestinian shooter shortly after the incident.
Following Israel’s announcement, the Palestinian Health Ministry said it was notified by the Palestinian General Authority for Civil Affairs that Palestinian Tareq Dawood, 18, was killed near the town of Azzoun, east of Qalqilya, by Israeli forces.
Tensions have been running high across the occupied Palestinian territories amid a deadly Israeli offensive that has killed nearly 40,000 people in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7.
Over 623 Palestinians have since been killed and nearly 5,400 others injured by Israeli army fire in the occupied West Bank, according to the Health Ministry.
In a landmark opinion on July 19, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land "illegal" and demanded the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
