JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli warplanes launched a new wave of airstrikes on Tyre in southern Lebanon on Monday, shortly after immediate evacuation orders for residents in the area.
Lebanon’s state news agency NNA said an airstrike targeted a residential apartment in Afran Al-Bahr neighborhood in the city and another hit Bafliyeh town during a funeral procession there.
Airstrikes were also reported in Burghliyeh and Jabal al-Botm, causing heavy material damage.
No information about injuries was yet available.
The attacks came shortly after the Israeli army issued immediate evacuation orders for residents in several areas in Tyre.
Israeli warplanes also launched an airstrike on Burj Al-Barajneh area in Beirut's southern suburb, causing one building to collapse.
Israel has mounted a massive air campaign in Lebanon since last month against what it claims are Hezbollah targets in an escalation from a year of cross-border warfare between Israel and the group since the start of Israel’s brutal offensive on Gaza.
Over 2,670 people have been killed and nearly 12,500 injured in Israeli attacks since October last year, according to Lebanese health authorities.
Israel expanded the conflict on Oct. 1 this year by launching a ground assault into southern Lebanon.
