BEIRUT (AA) - The Israeli army's warplanes carried out a wave of heavy airstrikes late Friday on the southern suburb of Beirut, amid a deadly onslaught against Lebanon.

The Lebanese state news agency, NNA, reported at least five "violent airstrikes" on the areas of Borj Al-Barajneh, the Hadath area near the Lebanese University and Haret Hreik.

No casualties have been reported.

Shortly before the airstrikes, the Israeli army issued evacuation orders to several areas in the southern suburb, stating that it would strike what it said were "facilities and interests" of the Lebanese resistance group, Hezbollah.

A massive Israeli air campaign in Lebanon has been ongoing since late September against what it claims are Hezbollah targets in an escalation in year-long cross-border warfare since the start of the Gaza war.

More than 3,100 people have been killed and over 13,800 injured in Israeli attacks since October 2023, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Israel launched a ground assault into southern Lebanon on Oct. 1.
