ISTANBUL (AA) – Istanbul Airport's award-winning traffic control tower has been illuminated in blue on Sunday to mark World Children's Day.
The UN General Assembly signed the Convention on the Rights of Children on Nov. 20, 1989 to protect children and improve their living conditions, and since then it has been observed as World Children's Day.
Every year on or before Nov. 20, UNICEF arranges a variety of events to promote awareness about children's rights.
"Istanbul Airport's Traffic Control Tower turned blue for tomorrow's World Children's Day," UNICEF Türkiye said on Twitter on Saturday.
Photographs of children are also being displayed on airport screens.
Joining the celebrations, the Basilica Cistern in Istanbul has also lighted up in blue.
"The magical Basilica Cistern, largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul, lit its lights BLUE for children for #WorldChildrensDay tomorrow!," UNICEF said.
