ANKARA (AA) - London's Arsenal signed Italian midfielder Jorginho from city rivals Chelsea on Tuesday, the January 2023 transfer deadline day.
"Italian international Jorginho has joined us from Chelsea," Arsenal said in a statement, without disclosing any details of the contract.
Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, said he believes the 31-year-old defensive midfielder will add value to the team.
"Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience. Jorginho has won in his career, but he still has the hunger and huge willingness to contribute here.
"We are so pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to the club," Arteta said.
Jorginho is Arsenal's third signing in January after Polish central defender Jakub Kiwior and Belgian winger Leandro Trossard.
In 2018 summer, Jorginho left Italian club Napoli for Chelsea. He spent 4.5 years at the English club to win UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League titles once each, as well as a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
Jorginho scored 29 goals in 213 appearances for Chelsea.
Brazil-born Jorginho, who has 46 international caps, was one of the integral parts of Italy when the national team won the UEFA EURO 2020.
