Italy’s head coach Roberto Mancini unexpectedly resigned Sunday, the Italian football body said.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said in a statement that they accepted Mancini's resignation.
The FIGC added that it will appoint a new head coach to fill the vacant position.
Italian national Mancini, 58, became his country's head coach after the Azzurri failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
He guided Italy to the UEFA EURO 2020 title in the summer of 2021 after beating England on penalties at Wembley.
But Mancini's men could not qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Former Inter Milan and Galatasaray head coach Mancini helped Manchester City win the 2012 English Premier League title, the club's first league success in 44 years.
